By now you’ve seen the video of Washington Redskins wide receiver Terrelle Pryor get into a heated exchange with a fan at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City during Monday night’s contest against the Chiefs. TMZ shared video of the conclusion of the exchange in which resulted in Pryor being refrained by team staffers and Pryor flipping off the fan before appearing to attempt tossing his helmet.

On Wednesday evening in an Instagram post, Pryor explained what led to the video. The Redskins receiver claims fans(s) directed a racial slur at him prior to the footage of the video. The experience led Pryor to sympathize with NFL players who choose to kneel during the National Anthem in protest of social and racial inequality. Craig Hoffman of 106.7 the Fan captured Pryor’s post.

Using offensive language towards players goes over the line, especially when using a racial slur. Pryor’s claims are not farfetched. Athletes are expected to act in a professional manner when dealing with heckling fans, but it can easily become unbearable if and when hecklers go over the line with offensive and racial language. It would be asinine to believe such a thing never occurs during a game.

Pryor did apologize to his teammates and the Redskins organization for his part in the exchange for flipping off the fan.
