Kirk Cousins Becomes Third QB to Go 0-6 as Starter on Monday Night Football

Let’s get the stat out of the way. Despite, playing a solid game throughout, Kirk Cousins once again was on the short end of the stick Monday night. The Washington Redskins fell 34-24 to the Philadelphia Eagles, dropping them to 3-3 on the season and giving Cousins the unwanted honor of becoming just the third quarterback to lose his first six games as a starter on Monday Night Football.

Cousins completed 30-of-40 passes for 303 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception. However, the banged-up Redskins defense could not stop Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz. Wentz completed just 17 passes for 265 yards, but he tossed four touchdowns (and one interception).

Both quarterbacks knifed through the opposing defenses. But, it was Wentz, who came away on top. It’s hard to blame Cousins for this loss. Monday’s game played out much like the season has with little to no production from the wide receiver position. The Redskins wide receiver accounted for 100 of Cousins’ 303 yards.

The offensive line was already hurting with left tackle Trent Williams nursing a knee injury that reportedly may require surgery. Then right tackle Morgan Moses suffered injuries to both his ankles and right guard Brandon Scherff suffered a knee injury. While all are valid points, the headline will be Cousins winless record on Monday night.

With his 0-6 record, he joins Archie Manning and Joe Namath as the only other quarterbacks to go winless in his first six starts on Monday Night Football. It’s a record that critics will hold over Cousins’ head whether it’s fair or not. Forget the fact, he is a perfect 2-0 on Sunday Night Football with wins over Aaron Rodgers and Derek Carr.

The Redskins do not have another Monday night game on the remainder of the season. So, Cousins will carry his winless mark with him into the next season. Being he is set to be a free agent this spring, his next Monday Night Football start could come in another uniform other than the Redskins.
