After grinding through two sore ankles for the entire 2017 season, Washington Redskins right tackle Morgan Moses will undergo surgery to alleviate his issues. Moses traveled to Charlotte, N.C. on Wednesday and will have ankle surgery on Thursday. Foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson will perform the procedure, according toĀ Matthew ParasĀ of the Washington Times.
ESPN’s John Keim reports the surgery will be on one of his ankles, as the former University of Virginia standout avoided double ankle surgery.
Redskins QB Kirk Cousins revealed last week to the media, Moses was dealing with torn ligaments in at least one of his ankles.
It was a weekly scene to see Moses on the turf being treated by the training staff. The most notable instances occurred in Week 7 and Week 13. In a Week 7 game against Philadelphia, Moses left the game in the second quarter after injuring both ankles. In Week 13, he was carted off the field in a game against Dallas. Yet, he still played in all 16 games for a total of 958 snaps — the most of any Redskins’ offensive linemen. He mostly gutted it out due to the fact how injury ravaged was the Redskins’ initial starting offensive line.

Last April, Moses signed a five-year deal with the Redskins making him at the time the second-highest paid right tackle in the NFL. In 2017, he graded out as the 38th offensive tackle in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.
Moses’ recovery time will be determined following the surgery. But, it’s a great sign he is having it done early to allow him time to recover before off-season activities.
