The Maryland Terrapins appear set to fill the vacancy for its offensive coordinator. Former LSU Tigers’ offensive coordinator, Matt Canada, is expected to hired as the Terps new play caller, according to Matt Zentitz of AL.com.

Canada was fired from LSU after one lackluster season with the Tigers in 2017. The Tigers’ offense ranked 54th in the nation in yards and 76th in scoring.

Philosophical differences with head coach Ed Orgeron led to his dismissal. Canada is set to receive a $1.7 million buyout by Feb. 28.

Canada is just two seasons removed from guiding the Pittsburgh Panthers to No. 10 ranking in total offense. This will be his third stint in the Big ten as he was previously the offensive coordiantor at Wisconsin in 2012 and at his alma mater, Indiana from 2007-10. He also spent time as coordinator at N.C. State (2013-15), Northern Illinois (2011, 2003) and Butler (1997).

He will replace Walt Bell at Maryland. Bell left to become the offensive coordinator at Florida State following the hire of Willie Taggart as head coach in Tallahasee.
