Superstars recognize superstars. On Tuesday, the Washington Redskins sent shock waves through the NFL when they traded a third round pick and Kendall Fuller to the Kansas City Chiefs for QB Alex Smith. The move effectively ended Kirk Cousins’ tenure with Washington. One fellow Washington sports superstar, Bryce Harper, questioned the Redskins decision to move away from Kirk Cousins.
Maybe I’m crazy, but how do you get rid of @KirkCousins8? Isn’t he good? Like really good? Just a thought! #DC pic.twitter.com/lIY4ZeU0fT

Harper is speaking for a good portion of Washington fans and media. Sure, Kirk Cousins may not have wanted to stay with the Redskins. But, after seeing the stunt the Redskins front office just pulled, trading away one a young cornerback with loads of potential for a widely regarded game manager, all while giving him a four-year extension that will pay him $23.5 million per year, who can blame Cousins, now?
The Redskins have put themselves in a tough spot from day one with Cousins, going back to drafting him in the fourth round in the 2012 NFL Draft, just three rounds after trading up and drafting Robert Griffin III. Now, the Redskins are in a tougher spot, with mounting pressure for Smith to succeed.
Let’s just hope a move like this is not duplicated by the Washington Nationals next winter as Harper will become a free agent.
