The Washington Wizards made a move just ahead of the NBA trade deadline. Washington trades guard Sheldon Mac and cash considerations to the Atlanta Hawks for a protected second-round pick.

The move, does more for the Wizards financially, as they free up salary to lower their luxury tax. Washington also frees up a roster space for any player that becomes available after buyouts.

Mac suffered a torn left Achilles tendon in preseason, knocking him of for the season. He has an expiring contract that was enticing for the Hawks. However, the Wizards will probably not see the second-round pick as it’s heavily protected.

Following a hectic trade deadline, names such as Joe Johnson are seeking buyouts. The possibility of adding a veteran presence to the bench and the locker room is all the Wizards’ front office could spin up this time around.
