Alex Ovechkin Scores Two Goals to Move Four Shy of 600 Goals

Alex Ovehckin scored two third period goals in the Washington Capitals’ 5-1 rout of the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night. Ovechkin scored NHL career goals 595 and 596, moving him four away from being the 20th player in the league’s history to score 600 goals.

His first goal of the night came from his office on a Capitals’ power play. Ovechkin rifled the puck past Sabres’ goalie Robin Lehner off a feed from John Carlson at 10:13 in the third period.

With the Capitals in full control, Ovechkin tipped in his second goal of the night from a pass from again Carlson.

Ovechkin is also closing in on his NHL-record seventh Maurice “Rocket” Richard trophy as he leads the league with 38 goals on the season. The two-goal performance was his 118th two-goal game in his career. The accolades continue to pile up for the most decorated Capitals player of all-time.
