Orlando Scandrick is staying within the NFC East. The former Dallas Cowboys cornerback agreed to a two-year deal that could be worth $10 million with the Washington Redskins.

Scandrick spent 10 seasons with the Cowboys after Dallas drafted him in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft. After asking for his release, Dallas designated Scandrick as a post-June 1 cut. He met with Redskins officials on Monday to ultimately agree to a two-year deal.
The Redskins needed to bolster its secondary, specifically at slot corner after trading Kendall Fuller to the Kansas City Chiefs to acquire quarterback Alex Smith. The team also has appeared to lose Bashaud Breeland in free agency, although his three-year deal with the Carolina Panthers was nullified due to him failing a physical.
Scandrick, 31, is looking to sure up the Redskins secondary that had their ups and downs last season in large due to rib injury to top corner Josh Norman.
The move seems to show the lack of confidence the Redskins may have to turning the slot over to a younger Joshua Hosley at this current time. Hosley, a second-year pro, seemed to be an ideal replacement, however, Washington wanted a veteran option.
The team met with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie last week, but the former New York Giant told Josina Anderson of ESPN, he wouldn’t decide on his future until April. Scandrick became available this week, and the Redskins moved their attention to him.
Scandrick appeared in 11 games last season. He graded out as the No. 113 qualified cornerback in the league, according to Pro Football Focus. Dallas eventually transitioned to their younger talent Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis, as Scandrick dealt with a back injury.
His best season of his career came in 2014 when he was named second-team All-Pro. However, he has struggled with health and play since, missing considerable time over the past three seasons. In 2015 he suffered a torn ACL during a training camp practice, missing the entire season. In 2016, he missed four games with a hamstring injury before his back injury from a season ago.
The questions will be moving forward, Is Scandrick’s best days behind him and Can he be effective enough for the Redskins?
