The Washington Redskins are moving on from edge rusher Junior Galette. Senior VP of personnel Doug Williams confirmed earlier reports the Redskins were moving in another direction from Galette.

ā€œI did tell him we were going in another direction, and he was very thankful,ā€ Williams told Liz Clarke of the Washington Post. ā€œHe had two Achillesā€™ injuries, and we stuck by him. We gave him a chance, and heā€™s very appreciative of it. He told me, ā€˜Thank you. If it wasnā€™t for you, I donā€™t know whether Iā€™d still be here,ā€™ so it was a good conversation.ā€

A report surfaced last week that Washington had withdrawn their offer to Galette, who spent the past three seasons with the team.

The Redskins signed Galette to a one-year deal in 2015 following his release from the New Orleans Saints after a multiple off-the-field incidents. However, he suffered a torn left Achilles during training camp ending his season. Washington re-signed him to a one-year deal in 2016. He then tore his right Achilles during a workout prior to training camp. Washington still signed him to a third one-year deal for the 2017 season.

In 2017, Galette appeared in all 16 games, recording three sacks and a forced fumble. He was rated No. 31 among edge rushers in the NFL by Pro Football Focus.

Galette will now look for a new home in hopes of returning to his Pro Bowl form from his days in New Orleans. A form that never materialized with the Redskins.

The Redskins are moving on and a report suggests that they have turned their attention to free agent edge rusher Pernell McPhee.
