John Wall’s return to the Washington Wizards is imminent. According to Wizards head coach Scott Brooks, Wall will travel with the team to Detroit and is “questionable” for Thursday’s game against the Pistons.

Wall has missed the past 27 games following arthroscopic surgery on his left knee in January. Washington has a record of 16-11 without its star player during that time. However, they’ve struggled as of late, winning just four times in their last 13 games.

The Wizards (41-33) snapped a three-game losing streak in Tuesday’s win over the San Antonio Spurs. They are currently sixth in the Eastern Conference standings but are 2 1/2 games behind Philadelphia and Indiana for fourth. The Wizards hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over Indiana, so getting Wall back to help energize the team would be a huge boost.

if Wall returns to game action in Detroit, he will have a max of eight games to get into mid-season shape before the Wizards enter the playoffs. Even with Wall back, the Wizards face a daunting task of navigating through the postseason to reach their goal of the franchise’s first trip to the Conference Finals in 40 years. However, that task may be impossible without him.

Wall dealt with the bothersome knee much of the season since initially injuring it on Nov. 7. He has missed a total of 37 games — half of the Wizards’ season. He was simply not himself at times. Despite that, he still averaged 19.4 points, 9.3 assists (second at the time in NBA), 3.6 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 1.1 blocks (first among point guards at the time). Getting that from a player who was an estimate of 70 percent healthy, shows the impact of level of stardom Wall possesses.
