The Washington Capitals may be finding their stride. On Wednesday they completed an epic comeback to down the New York Rangers 3-2 in overtime.
The Capitals were down to their final minute when goalie Braden Holtby skated off giving Washington an extra skater. Nicklas Backstrom dumped the puck at the net, and Lars Eller chipped the puck past Rangers’ goalie Henrik Lundqvist to tie and send the game into overtime at 2-2.

Forcing the extra frame, the Capitals did not waste much time to the win. Evgeny Kuznetsov got the takeaway and charged through into the zone with the Rangers on their heel. He then circled the defense and froze them with a fake before depositing the puck in the net just a mere 38 seconds into overtime.

The improbable win was the Capitals’ fifth straight. They have won nine of their last 10 games and extended their lead on the Metropolitan Division by seven points over second-place Pittsburgh with five games remaining.
