The Washington Redskins have added to their quarterback depth by acquiring QB Kevin Hogan from the Cleveland Browns. The Redskins announced the deal that will include both teams exchanging sixth-round draft picks in 2018.
Hogan, 25, was granted permission by the Browns to seek a trade as the Browns continue to revamp their quarterback position. Hogan joins DeShone Kizer and Cody Kessler as QBs to be shipped out of Cleveland via trade this offseason.
Hogan, a McLean, Virginia native, gets the opportunity to return to his home area. Hogan starred at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C. throwing for 4,762 yards and 37 touchdowns in three seasons. He was at one point ranked as the top football player in Washington, D.C. by Scout.
He then played four seasons at Stanford, guiding the Cardinal to a 12-2 record and a Rose Bowl victory ovee Iowa. He finished with 9,385 yards, 75 touchdowns and 29 interceptions while playing at Stanford.
Hogan was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth-round in the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent the past two seasons with the Browns after being cut and started in one game in 2017 while appearing in four. He has thrown for 621 yards, four touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 59.4 percent of his passes in eight games in his NFL career.
Hogan is a smart player that understands what’s his limits are. Those limits are largely due to his poor footwork and wide throwing motion. That’s where the team’s passing game coordinator Kevin O’Connell will come in for Hogan’s development.
