It’s official, Alex Ovechkin wins his seventh “Rocket” Richard Trophy after leading the NHL with 49 goals this season. No man has won more Rocket trophies. In fact, no other player has won it more than twice since the award was established in the 1998-99 season.
Ovechkin reached the 49 goal plateau for the ninth time in his career. He has now won the trophy five of the last six seasons.
Congratulations to @ovi8 on his 7th career Maurice "Rocket" Richard Trophy! #NHLAwards

Ovechkin fell one goal shy of 50 after scoring two in the Washington Capitals’ season finale against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. He ties Bobby Hull for the most goal-scoring titles in NHL history.
This season Ovechkin eclipsed a couple of milestones, including becoming the fourth-fastest player to reach 600 career NHL goals. He also played in his 1,000th career game — all with the Capitals. The most decorated Washignton Capital of all-time, Ovechkin has a lengthy list of accolades. Now he and his team will look to add their first Stanley Cup title to their resumes, as they embark on the NHL Playoffs that start for them on Thursday in a best-of-seven series against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
