What hasn’t Max Scherzer done during his soon-to-be Hall of Fame career?
He has Cy Young’s, no-hitters, a home run, and RBIs. Just about the only thing not checked on his checklist was a stolen base. That is until now.
In the seventh inning of the Washington Nationals’ 2-0 win over the Atlanta Braves, Scherzer got on first with a lead-off single. Then he timed his jump and stole second base off of Peter Moylan.

Scherzer’s first career stolen base comes on the night he stifled the Braves striking out 10 while allowing two hits in a complete game shutout. Safe to safe there is nothing Scherzer cannot do on the baseball field.
Following the epic game, Nationals manager Dave Martinez presented Scherzer with the second base, according Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post.
The stolen base was long overdue for Scherzer, who revealed he had pleaded with managers of the past for a green light.
Max on having the green light to go: “FINALLY. I’ve been yelling at Matt Williams and Dusty Baker to let me go…if J-Dub can steal a base so can I.”

He told Martinez earlier in the week, he had the “best pop-up slide in baseball” as his skipper pleaded for him not to get hurt when he attempted to steal. All is good, and Scherzer put icing on his cake for a wonderful outing.
