Alex Ovechkin entered Sunday night’s Game 2 with just one goal in his last seven postseason games. He went scoreless in the Capitals’ Game 1 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. Following the loss, fans and media pointed to Ovechkin coming off the shift ahead of a key offensive zone face-off. Moments later the Caps suffered the OT loss.

All of that was forgotten momentarily when Ovechkin officially introduced himself to the series, scoring a power play goal from his office to give the Capitals a 2-0 lead.

T.J. Oshie won the face-off and John Carlson quickly swung to the puck to Ovechkin to the circle, where the Capitals captain fired off a wrister to beat Blue Jackets goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, as Washington took a two-goal lead with 6:34 remaining in the first period.
