Bruce Allen Denies Reports of Him Joining Raiders

For fans of the Washington Redskins it was hard to hide your excitement. The team landed a solid 2018 draft class based on perception of NFL insiders, this past weekend. Then, a Pro Football Talk report indicated that team president Bruce Allen has aspirations on him returning to the Oakland Raiders to once again pair with new head coach Jon Gruden. That report went right in line with an April report that indicated Redskins owner Dan Snyder had become increasingly frustrated with Allen. Fans of the Redskins have long clamored for the team to part ways with Allen.

Unfortunately, if you’re part of that group yearning for a change, Allen, himself, shot down the report of him leaving the team during an interview on Tuesday morning.

“Well, first of all, I do like the Silver and Black,” AllenĀ told Jim Miller and Pat KirwanĀ of SiriusXM NFL Radio Tuesday. “I think Mark Davis, Reggie (McKenzie) and Jon (Gruden) are going to do greatĀ and I’m so excited for them to go to Vegas, but I’m not going there. And I’m not going to play shortstop for the Nationals, either, tonight.”

“I have a job to do,” he said. “And we’re really looking forward to this seasonĀ and what we’re going to be doing off the field here in future stadiums in Washington.”

The Pro Football Talk report went in line with an earlier report last Friday from CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora, that spoke of Allen’s potential move to the Raiders. Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman also seconded the PFT report, adding there was “mutual interest” between Allen and the Raiders.

Allen and Jon Gruden had worked together with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in addition to the Raiders. With the Redskins, the team his father George Allen, guided to a Super Bowl, he is paired with Jon’s younger brother Jay.

Despite Allen’s denial, the report adds to the intrigue of his relationship with Snyder. What the future beholds between the two is anyone’s guess.Ā But if things sour with Washington, certainly there’s a strong possibility of him heading to the Raiders. And just in time to join them for their relocation to Las Vegas.
