Two questionable penalty calls that cost the Capitals two goals, has apparently woken the sleeping giant. The Capitals ripped off three unanswered goals in the second period, two coming in the period’s final 62 seconds to take a commanding 4-2 lead.
The start of the third period was much the same. After scoring to make it a two-goal lead, Evgeny Kuznetsov showed off his magical skill set with the puck with a deke to sprawl Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Anton Stalman before finding a charging Alex Ovechkin for a beautiful display of a goal 3:34 into the third period.
