The Washington Wizards revealed that first-round pick Troy Brown will wear the jersey number 6 as a rookie.
No word on any special meaning or reason for Brown choosing the No. 6. He wore the jersey number 0 while at Oregon and through his AAU days. The jersey No. 0 with the Wizards is not retired, but its associated with Gilbert Arenas who was the star of the franchise during his era pre-John Wall.
Brown comes to the Wizards with mixed reviews, in larger due to the anticipation the Wizards were going to address their biggest need at athletic big or shot-creating guard which the 6-foot-7 Brown fits neither build.
Brown becomes just the seventh player in franchise history to wear the No. 6 according to Basketball-Reference. Mike Riordan, Antonio Daniels, Mike Miller, Maurice Evans, Eric Maynor and Alan Anderson also wore the jersey number while with the franchise. Riordan wore the jersey the longest (six seasons) while playing with the Baltimore/Capital City/Washington Bullets from 1972-77 and was arguably the most productive player to wear the jersey. At his peak, Riordan averaged 18.1 points and 5.2 assists (1972-73) and finished his time with the Bullets averaging 12.4 points and 2.8 assists.
Brown hopes he can put up or better those productive numbers by Riordan. Given he is the No. 15th pick overall, the Wizards hope he can produce those numbers as well.
