Fresh off his new three-year deal, Washington Redskins cornerback Quinton Dunbar is primed for an increased role presumably at outside corner. There is a good deal of chance at cornerback for the Redskins that included the supposed retirement of DeAngelo Hall. With that, his jersey number (23) had become available until now, as Dunbar will be switching his number from 47 to 23.

Dunbar shared a photo from the team’s photo shoot with his new jersey on Instagram.

The Redskins have yet to make the number change official, as No. 47 is still listed as Dunbar’s number on their website but all indications point to Dunbar assuming Hall’s old number.

Dunbar signed with the Redskins in 2015 as an undrafted rookie free agent. The Redskins converted him from wide receiver to cornerback. He has since appeared in 40 games, starting eight while recording three interceptions and 18 pass defensed in his three seasons. Dunbar rate with an above-average grade and the No. 47 cornerback in the NFL in 2017, according to Pro Football Focus. The team didn’t hesitate in re-signing him to a three-year deal at the conclusion of the season.

Dunbar is expected to compete for a starting cornerback opposite of Josh Norman with the departure of Bashaud Breeland.
