Terrelle Pryor’s time with the Washington Redskins did not go as planned. Slated as the No. 1 wide receiver, he appeared in just nine games recording 20 catches, 240 yards, one touchdown, and countless dropped opportunities to make a play. An ankle injury halted his one year in Washington, and both sides wanted no parts of each other and Pryor signed with the New York Jets in free agency.
In addition to his lackluster production, Pryor rubbed his defensive teammates the wrong way, as he constantly boasted and bragged about spectacular catches in practice while head coach Jay Gruden forbid the defense to make contact on him. With the Redskins and Jets conveniently scheduled to play each other on Aug. 16 in the preseason, Redskins linebacker Zach Brown put out a warning to Pryor the defense can now “put hands on him.”
On Thursday, Pryor responded taking the high road in the process.
“If they take dirty shots, I’m sure we’ll handle that accordingly,” Pryor said, perĀ Darryl SlaterĀ of NJ.com. “You start trying to make it an individual thing, it takes away from our team. I don’t want to individualize myself.”
Pryor is trying to rejuvenate his career that stalled in 2017 with the Redskins after a breakthrough season in 2016 while with the Cleveland Browns — 77 catches, 1,007 yards and four touchdowns.
Usually preseason games are yawners, as established players coast through the reps, however, the Redskins-Jets contest in two weeks will certainly have the attention of viewers especially when Pryor is on the field.
