The highly anticipated debut of the Washington Redskins second-round pick running back Derrius Guice ended on a sour note, as the rookie exited Thursday’s preseason opener against the New England Patriots with an apparent knee injury.
The injury occurred in the first quarter, when Guice broke through for what would have been a gain of 34 yards. Guice was tackled by Patriots safety Damarius Travis. Guice was slow to get up and then hobbled to the sideline before being attended to by the training staff.

Guice was escorted to the trainer’s table before he was taken back to the locker room. The Redskins then announced he was being evaluated for a knee injury.

The Redskins took the former the LSU standout 59th overall pick with the thoughts of him bolstering their lackluster run game after he finished with the second-highest yards per carry in Southeastern Conference history. Guice has had a good training camp that drew rave reviews from multiple Redskins players and coaches, including starting quarterback Alex Smith.

Whatever it was doesn't appear to be serious.#Redskins

The Redskins must now be have the wait-and-see what comes of an evaluation and how serious or hampering the matter could be for Guice.
