Just not what the Washington Redskins or any team wants to have to deal with after a preseason game — injuries. And it appears there will be a lot of fingers crossed with second-round pick, rookie running back Derrius Guice.

Guice exited Thursday’s preseason opener after being tackled on what should have been a 34-yard gain — the play was called back due to a holding penalty. Guice was being evaluated for a knee injury, per the Redskins PR.

Guice was attended to on the trainer’s table and later seen on the sidelines with an ice wrap. Now, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports Guice will have an MRI on Friday to make sure there is nothing serious with his left knee.

Guice finished the evening with 19 yards on six carries and a negated big run.

The Redskins have a plethora of capable running backs that played at some portion of last season with the numerous injuries that swept through the backfield. The competition is steep with Guice, Byron Marshall, Chris Thompson, Robert Kelley, and Samaje Perine. However, Guice is expected to be the lead back, yet, all eyes will be on the results of Friday’s MRI.
