The Washington Redskins feared the worst when wide receiver Robert Davis had to be carted off the practice field on Saturday. While Davis avoided the torn ACL the Redskins feared, he will be out for the season with a broken leg and torn LCL, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
#Redskins WR Robert Davis is out for the season, as @MikeGarafolo reported. Following his MRI, Davis learned he has a broken leg and a torn LCL. He’s slated for surgery with Dr. Daniel Cooper in Dallas.

Davis will undergo surgery in Dallas.
The injury is a huge blow for the former Georgia State product who had hoped to hook on the Redskins’ 53-man roster. He had an impressive training camp and showed signs of maturation with three catches for 35 yards in Thursday’s preseason opener against the New England Patriots.
The slight silver lining here is no ACL, as they’d feared, and no nerve damage. Though Davis is done for the year, it actually could’ve been worse for him. https://t.co/dpYnvZiVov

The Redskins’ competition at wide receiver was already wide open, but with the loss of Davis the team will need to look deeper in their arsenal as the final 53-man roster shapes out.
Davis was working to be penciled in as either the No. 4 or 5 receiver behind the stables Paul Richardson, Jamison Crowder, and Josh Doctson. The loss of Davis does presume well for others such as Brian Quick and seventh-round pick Trey Quinn, who are both dealing with injuries as well.
