A week after losing second-round pick Derrius Guice for the season with a torn ACL, the Washington Redskins may be dealing with another running back injury. Last season’s leading rusher, Samaje Perine, exited Thursday’s preseason game against the New York Jets with a sprained ankle.

Perine had one carry midway through the first quarter, a 30-yard gain in which he burst through the lane opened up off the right tackle. However, after the run, the second-year back hobbled off the field to the sidelines where he was met by the team’s training staff.

The Redskins can ill-afford another injury to their backfield with Guice out for the season. Chris Thompson, their lead all-purpose back, is returning from a broken leg he suffered last November. Robert Kelley is returning after an ankle injury as well as MCL sprain. Washington will be crossing their fingers yet again, one of their young running backs avoids serious injury.
