X-rays on Kelvin Herrera’s injured left foot are negative However, Herrera is not out of the woods yet, as there is no official word on if any ligaments were damaged. He’ll undergo more test on Monday, according to Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post.
Herrera was injured while fielding a grounder in the ninth inning of the Nationals’ 15-0 win over the New York Mets. Herrera ran to tag the uncovered first bag when he stumbled after planting his left foot. He was later carted off the field after trainers evaluated the situation.
Herrera had asked to pitch on Sunday and Nationals manager Davey Martinez obliged despite the score being out of hand in large due to Herrera not pitching since Tuesday.
Washington (65-66) stand 7.5 games back of the wild card in the National League and 8.5 games out of first place in the NL East.
Herrera was activated from the disabled list on Tuesday after dealing with a right shoulder impingement. Now he will hope the results of ligament tests will be the same good news as his X-rays.
