After three touchdowns by freshman wide receiver Jeshaun Jones, Maryland was riding high with a 24-7 lead over No. 23 Texas. But, the momentum of the game quickly changed in the final seven minutes of the second quarter.
Texas already had the score cut down to 24-14 after a five-yard touchdown run by Keaontay Ingram. A Longhorns’ punt pinned the Terrapins inside the five-yard line. Three plays later on 3rd-and-11, a botched hand-off between quarterback Kasim Hill and running back Jake Funk in the end zone resulted in a safety and two points for Texas.

On the ensuing possession, trailing 24-16 Texas marched 50 yards on five plays culminating with quarterback Sam Ehlinger finding Collin Johnson on a fade route for a 22-yard touchdown with 17 seconds remaining before halftime. A failed two-point conversion is the only thing that held Texas back from tying the game.

Now with momentum on Texas’ side, Maryland is clinging to a 24-22 lead entering the second half.
