The Redskins may have to shuffle the deck of cards at wide receiver after Maurice Harris did not practice on Thursday while dealing with a concussion. Harris has not practiced this week and has been dealing with the concussion for the past couple of weeks.

Harris was penciled in as the Redskins’ fourth wide receiver behind Josh Doctson, Paul Richardson and Jamison Crowder, however if Harris is not cleared to play on Sunday when the Redskins open their 2018 regular season against the Arizona Cardinals, seventh-round pick Trey Quinn will replace him.

Head coach Jay Gruden confirmed the Quinn’s possible promotion while speaking to reporters.

Quinn was Mr. Irrelevant, being the last pick in the NFL’s Draft in April. The former SMU product has been far from being irrelevant since joining the Redskins and has impressed with his play. He even overcame a huge hit in his first preseason game. His play left no doubt of him making the 53-man roster.

Quinn is ideal for being a slot receiver and was listed as the backup slot receiver behind Crowder when the Redskins unofficial depth chart was announced on Wednesday.

Harris, like Quinn, has rose above all odds, making the Redskins’ practice squad back-to-back seasons in 2016 and 2017. He was activated from the practice squad each season, playing 16 games over the course of both seasons, and recording 12 receptions for 128 yards, one touchdown, and one highlight reel, one-handed grab.

His hard work has paid as he was a lock to make the initial 53-man roster and established himself as the fourth wide receiver. Unfortunately, it’s a strong chance the concussion will halt his 2018 debut.

Quinn now has the opportunity to get reps within the offense. Gruden also hinted that Quinn could a factor at punt return.
