As a sophomore Maryland running back Ty Johnson averaged 9.1 yards per carry. He averaged 6.4 as a junior last season, however, this season he has gotten off to a slow start, if 6.1 yards per carry is slow. Any doubt got put away on Saturday against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, as the senior broke away for an 81-yard touchdown run, his longest of his collegiate career.
The run was also the fourth longest run in Maryland football history and its longest since 2010

Johnson is a home run threat every time he touches the football. This season Maryland has spread the touches around due to their depth of talent with Lorenzo Harrison and freshman Anthony McFarland. Johnson still is the main draw, and Minnesota found that out the hard way.
The score gave Maryland an early 14-0 lead over their Big Ten foes.
