Washington Redskins wide receiver Jamison Crowder will miss a few weeks with a sprained ankle, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Crowder suffered the injury back on Oct. 8 against the New Orleans Saints. The injury forced him to miss last week’s win against the Carolina Panthers.

Head coach Jay Gruden classified Crowder’s chances of playing Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys as “iffy” however he did not practice Thursday and was on a scooter with a boot on his right foot after practice, according to John Keim of ESPN.

Maurice Harris is expected to continue to man the slot receiver position in place of Crowder while he is out. Last week, Harris had three receptions for 13 yards. Harris has practiced primarily in the slot this week but has practiced in base personnel packages according to Gruden. And the team feels most comfortable with him there over veteran options Michael Floyd and Brian Quick, who both practicing primarily on the outside.

The Redskins announced wide receiver Jehu Chesson was signed from the practice squad for the second time this season. The Redskins had a roster spot open after the release of defensive lineman Ziggy Hood.

After recording 192 catches for 2,240 yards and 12 touchdowns through his first three seasons, Crowder has just 20 targets and 13 receptions through four games this season, as he and the rest of the Redskins receivers adjust to new quarterback Alex Smith. Losing Crowder for any amount of time hurts any development of Washington’s passing game.
