The Washington Redskins claimed embattled linebacker Reuben Foster off waivers on Tuesday. Foster was released by the San Francisco 49ers Sunday after he was arrested and charged with domestic violence stemming from an incident at a team hotel in Tampa prior to their game against the Buccaneers.
This is the second time Foster has been charged with domestic violence this year. Charges were dropped after the victim, his on and off girlfriend Elissa Ennis recanted her claim Foster abused her. Ennis is the alleged victim in the latest incident as well.
Speculation swirled if Foster will be allowed to play immediately but in a statement released Tuesday evening Redskins vice preside of player personnel Doug Williams said Foster won’t play until his legal matters are completed.

Foster will face potential discipline from the NFL. He was suspended two games this season stemming from gun possession and marijuana charges.
If Foster suits up for the Redskins, he’ll join a number of his former Alabama teammates, who in Williams’ statement showed support of the team making a claim for the linebacker. Defensive linemen Jonathan Allen and Daron Payne and linebackers Shaun Dion Hamilton, and Ryan Anderson all played with Foster during their time with the Crimson Tide.
The Redskins will take over Foster’s rookie contract which runs through the 2020 season which will pays him $875,708 this season, $1.29 million in 2019 and $1.7 million in 2020. His remaining $1.88 million in guarantees was voided after he was suspended earlier this season, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
