Reuben Foster will remain on the NFL’s commissioner’s exempt list until his legal matters are resolved. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Washington Redskins linebacker agreed to not appeal his placement on the exempt list and will remain until the legal process is complete.
That means Foster is likely done for the season as law enforcement investigate domestic violence charges on Foster stemming from an incident with his on and off again girlfriend at a team hotel in Tampa Bay last week while Foster was a member of the San Francisco 49ers.
The 49ers waived Foster last Sunday following the arrest and the Redskins claimed him off waivers on Monday. Washington was the only team to place a claim. Foster has been arrested three times within 2018.
According to a source of Schefter, the Redskins anticipated this exact scenario when they claimed Foster and had no intentions of him being a contributor this season.
Reality is once his legal matters are complete, Foster would be an added asset moving forward. That’s a big if, the results of any investigations are favorable to him.
The Redskins claimed his rookie contract that will pay him $1.3 million in 2019 and $1.7 million in 2020. Washington also is not charged any dead cap penalties and any remaining guarantees were voided with his two-game suspension earlier this season stemming from gun and marijuana possession charges.
