Reported Trade Between Wizards, Suns, Grizzlies Dead over ‘Brooks’ Confusion

The three-team trade that would have given the Washington Wizards Trevor Ariza and two second-round drafts is dead, as there was confusion over which Brooks the Suns would receive, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The Suns were under the impression they were going to acquire Austin Rivers and Dillon Brooks from the Memphis Grizzlies. However, the Grizzlies thought they were sending MarShon Brooks as Wojnarowski reported earlier. Because of the mix-up the trade is now dead.

Washington would have traded Kelly Oubre to Memphis and Austin Rivers to Phoenix. The Suns would have also received Wayne Seldon as well.

Unfortunately, the deal is off. Ariza would have rejoined the Wizards, a team he had arguably his best individual seasons with from 2012-2014.

The deal was a last-ditch effort by general manager Ernie Grunfeld to help right the ship as the Wizards are 11-18 after their fourth straight loss on Friday to the Brooklyn Nets.

It’s a kind of baffling how two NBA organizations could have such confusion over a deal that was discussed. Now Washington and Phoenix will have to find a new third team it seems to facilitate the trade. Might be kind of awkward for Oubre and Rivers to return to the locker room the after the nixed trade, right?
