Anthony Rendon has yet to win an MVP award, yet he wants to get paid like one. With one year left on his deal, the Washington Nationals third baseman is seeking a deal in line with Jose Altuve’s $163.5 million, seven-year deal he signed with the Houston Astros, according to Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic.
Altuve signed the deal just shortly before being named 2017 AL MVP.
Rendon, who turns 29 in June, is coming a strong campaign a season ago. In 2018, he hit a career-high .308, adding a .374 on-base percentage and .535 slugging percentage with an NL-best 44 doubles. In the last two seasons, he has 49 home runs and 192 RBIs combined.
Last month Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo expressed optimism of extending Rendon. The Nationals have had a history of making their homegrown talent happy. They worked mega deals with Ryan Zimmerman and pitcher Stephen Strasburg. Currently they are seeking to re-sign Bryce Harper, the most sought after player this winter to what will be a mega deal.

Coincidentally, Rendon is represented by Scott Boras, the same agent that represents Harper and Strasburg.
Rendon is projected by MLB Trade Rumors to receive $17.6 million in arbitration for 2019
