The Washington Redskins are trying to keep defensive line coach Jim Tomsula hours after news broke that Greg Manusky reportedly will remain as the Redskins defensive coordinator.

According to Les Carpenter of the Washington Post, Washington is working on a new contract for Tomsula, who’s contract expired at the end of the season.

A report earlier this month suggest he wanted out of Washington. However, it appears there is a good chance he will remain, as Doc Walker of Team 980 emphasizes.

Tomsula has been with the Redskins as their defensive line coach the past two seasons. They have shown great improvement from his first year to the previous season behind anchors Jonathan Allen, Matt Ioannidis, and Daron Payne. Having Tomsula back will keep continuity on the defense intact and allow the trio a natural process to develop.

Meanwhile, Washington have granted permission for the Green Bay Packers to interview linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti for their LB coach position under former Redskins assistant turned head coach Matt LaFleur.

Washington lost special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica to the Atlanta Falcons. Outside of those two positions, if Olivadotti ultimately leaves, appears to be the only changes on the Redskins coaching staff.
