Alex Smith Attended Wizards Game in First Public Appearance since Horrific Leg Injury

Alex Smith made his first public appearance since his horrific leg injury suffered in November. The Washington Redskins quarterback was in attendance of the Wizards 101-87 win over the Detroit Pistons Monday.

Smith sat in a seat and looked on with an apparatus over his injured leg. He also had crutches that he used to get around.

He even visited the Wizards’ victorious locker room with his family.

The last glimpse of Smith was a picture his wife shared of him in a wheelchair with his leg covered as he was released from the hospital in December.

Smith suffered a gruesome compound fracture, breaking his fibula and tibia, after he was sacked in the third quarter of a Week 11 game against the Houston Texans. He underwent emergency surgery after being taken away from FedEx Field in an ambulance.

Unfortunately, with injury combined with the surgery needed for such an injury, Smith developed a post-operation infection that reportedly required several additional surgeries to combat.

Shortly after news broke of the complications of his injury, the Redskins on behalf of his family asked for privacy as he dealt with the matter. If not anything else, Monday’s images of him at Capital One Arena gave hope of his eventual recovery, whether or not that includes playing on the football field ever again.
