Torrian Gray is officially out as the Washington Redskins defensive backs coach, as he is joining the Florida Gators coaching staff as their cornerbacks coach.

This ends the speculation of Gray leaving the Redskins coaching staff. It was reported earlier this month, he had been removed from the staff. However, there was no official word until Monday.

The Redskins reportedly interviewed Joe Woods for the defensive backs position last week before he ultimately signed with the San Francisco 49ers. Washington is still looking for an upgrade according to John Keim of ESPN.

This will be Gray’s second stint with Florida, as he was their defensive backs coach in 2016 before joining the Redskins in 2017.

Gray has done a good job with developing young talent for the NFL going back to his 10-year tenure at his alma mater Virginia Tech. There he helped produce NFL talent such as Kam Chancellor, Kendall Fuller and Kyle Fuller, among a host of others.

He will now take his talent to Gainesville under head coach Dan Mullen. Meanwhile, the Redskins will be searching for a replacement that will have a young group talent that includes Fabian Moreau, Greg Stroman, and Adonis Alexander.
