The news on John Wall is more devastating than before. The Washington Wizards announced Tuesday, their star guard will be out an additional 12 months after he slipped and fell in the shower, rupturing his Achilles. This weeks after he endured season-ending heel surgery.
Wall originally underwent surgery to remove bone spurs in his heel on Jan. 8, however, he developed an infection on the incision. While cleaning out the infection from the initial surgery it was discovered by Wizards’ team orthopedist Dr. Wiemi Douoguih, Wall ruptured his Achilles as a result of the fall that occurred on Jan. 29.
Wall had told the team of the incident and Dr. Douoguih said his tendon looked okay at first examination the next day Jan. 30.
The surgery to repair his torn Achilles will happen in Green Bay, Wisconsin and will be performed by Dr. Robert Anderson, who performed the initial heel surgery.
“Unfortunately, we don’t have a lot of data on elite NBA point guards and Achilles tendon ruptures,” Douoguih said per Chase Hughes of NBC Sports Washington.
This is the worst possible news for a Wizards franchise that is stuck in purgatory. Wall is guaranteed his four-year super max extension that starts next season in which he will be pay $37.8 million for 2019-20 and will average just over $42.3 million per season.
