As the Washington Redskins face the possibly not having quarterback Alex Smith for the 2019 season, the team is looking of ways to make the roster stronger in spite. One of those options is bringing back running back Adrian Peterson.
According to John Keim of ESPN.com, the Redskins have had preliminary talks with the 33-year old Peterson about a return for next season.
Bringing back Peterson would be wise and could bolster their run attack as he joins Derrius Guice in the backfield. Guice suffered a torn ACL in the first preseason game of 2018 after the Redskins selected him in the second-round of the NFL Draft.
Peterson was signed shortly afterwards and became the starting running back, rushing for 1,042 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
Peterson recently told TMZ Sports he would be “playing next year for sure.”
The Redskins had a rash of injuries, especially on the offensive line that affected Peterson’s production in the final six or so weeks of the season. With the line back healthy and the ability to stagger his snaps with healthy Guice and flex Chris Thompson could give Washington a dynamic trio next season regardless who the quarterback is for them.
