Maryland defensive back Raymond Boone was transported to a hospital and kept overnight as precaution after becoming ill during an indoor team workout Tuesday, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Boone released a statement to the The Sun, saying he is doing fine.

“I want to make sure everyone knows that I’m doing just fine,,” Boone said. “My blood sugar was low and I went to the hospital just to be cautious. I appreciate all of the support that I’ve received.”

Maryland’s athletic department also released a statement acknowledging the incident involving Boone.

“A student-athlete was transported to the hospital for precautionary measures during an afternoon workout on Tuesday, February 5th,” Maryland spokeswoman Jessica Jennings told The Sun. “The student was accompanied to the hospital by our medical training staff and team physician, and was released the following day.”

Tuesday’s workout was the first for the Terrapins under new head coach Mike Locksley.

The incident comes months after offensive lineman Jordan McNair fell ill during a summer workout under former head coach DJ Durkin. McNair was hospitalized and later died a couple of weeks later.

Two independent investigations followed stemming from the circumstances during the workout that McNair fell ill. Durkin and two prominent training staff members were fired in the aftermath.
