With NFL free agency looming, there will be plenty of rumors about teams’ discussions about various available players. At the top of the list to discussion is free agent running back Le’Veon Bell.
Bell will be available to sign with any team in the league after sitting out one season in a contract dispute with the Pittsburgh Steelers. There should be a fair share of interest in the talented back. According to Peter King of NBC Sports, the Washington Redskins are among possible destinations for Bell.
“New York, with $116 million in cap room and the motivation to spend with a GM who has to win this year, is the favorite to sign Bell. I can’t see Bell to the Colts except at a discount, and Bell will be motivated to make up what he lost last year (which he’ll never do). Smart football people think the Jets are the leaders in the Bell derby, with Washington and Miami possible too.”

The Redskins chances appear to be a long shot. For starters, they have just under $13 million in salary cap space, according to Spotrac.com. However, that did not stop them from reportedly being in the Antonio Brown sweepstakes before he landed in Oakland.
But, the Redskins also have a top-tier young running back in Derrius Guice, who is entering year two of a rookie scale contract. The Redskins have been in talks with Adrian Peterson in hopes of re-signing the veteran who led the team with 1,042 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. But that’s no done deal.
There is large speculation the Oakland Raiders will be in the fold for Bell. King noted the New York Jets are the favorites for Bell.
Only time will tell. But, if the reports are true that Washington was indeed in the mix for Brown and now have interest in Bell, it shows that the front office is at least having discussions about all possible angles to improve the 2019 roster despite the limited spending money.
