Yes, Colt McCoy drinks raw unpasteurized milk. The Washington Redskins quarterback confirmed what his head coach, Jay Gruden, put out in the universe Tuesday during the NFL owners meeting in Arizona.

While discussing McCoy’s recovery from a broken fibula he suffered in December, Gruden dropped an interesting tidbit that through social media in a frenzy.

“He drinks a gallon of milk every day. … I think it’s the milk that’s not pasteurized, either. I think it’s right out of the teat,” Gruden proclaimed about McCoy.

Talking to Redskins.com, McCoy confirmed his love for raw milk but clarified he doesn’t drink a gallon a day.

“I grew up drinking raw milk because we had dairy cows and so it’s what I’ve always preferred to drink,” McCoy said. “I don’t drink a gallon of it every day like Jay says, but I do like milk and I do drink it raw.”

McCoy, who underwent an additional surgery last week on his leg, said it takes him five to six days to drink a gallon of raw milk. He says he uses it with his cereal as well and his children drink it as well.

He grew up on a farm in Tuscola, Texas and milked his cows himself. Now an NFL quarterback and living in Virginia, McCoy says it’s “hard to find” raw unpasteurized milk. He pointed to regulations and rules for obtaining unpasteurized milk.

That may be because the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warns raw unpasteurized milk “can contain harmful germs, such as bacteria, viruses, and parasites that can make you or your loved ones very sick.”

As McCoy recovers from his second procedure, he expects to be ready for OTAs. There’s no telling how much of a factor raw milk will play in his recovery regimen.
