Free agent wide receiver Kenny Britt visited the Washington Redskins Monday. However, he will not be signing with the Redskins “at this time,” according to John Keim of ESPN.
Britt has played with the Tennessee Titans, St. Louis/L.A. Rams, Cleveland Browns, and most recently the New England Patriots throughout his career that started in 2009.
The 30-year old was out of the NFL last season after being released by the Patriots during the preseason.
Britt’s most productive season came in 2016 while with the Rams, as he had 68 receptions for 1,002 yards and five receiving touchdowns. Case Keenum, who the Redskins recently acquired in a trade, was his primary quarterback that season.
Keenum is expected to compete against Colt McCoy for the starting quarterback position for the Redskins. But as things look Britt will have to wait for an opportunity to join his former teammate in Washington.
While it may not be Britt, the Redskins presumably need an upgrade at wide receiver after an underwhelming season last year by the group. As Paul Richardson returns from shoulder surgery that ended his 2018 season, the Redskins will have cope with the losses of Jamison Crowder and Maurice Harris, as both signed with the New York Jets and New England Patriots, respectively.
No Redskins’ wide receiver recorded more than two touchdowns last season. Josh Doctson has struggled to find his mark in three seasons with Washington and Trey Quinn, who is expected to replace Harris, battled an ankle injury that limited him to three games a year ago. Cam Sims is also returning from an ankle injury that claimed much of his season.
As the Redskins’ search continues for an upgrade and depth, it’ll be interesting to see if Britt resurfaces in their plans.
