As the Alliance of American Football ended its operations, NFL teams have lined up to sign players to fill up their 90-man roster heading into off-season activities. The Washington Redskins joined the trend, agreeing to a deal with former Orlando Apollos edge rusher Andrew Ankrah, according to John Keim of ESPN.com.

Ankrah had 14 tackles and three sacks in the AAF before the league ended operations. Ankrah is a Montgomery County, Md. native, starring at Quince Orchard in high school before playing at James Madison.

He was the Colonial Athletic Association’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 as a senior, and recorded 26.5 sacks in four years with the Dukes. He went undrafted in 2018 and did not sign with an NFL team.

The Redskins are in need of pass rushers after Preston Smith signed with Green Bay in free agency. While the team has Ryan Kerrigan as a cornerstone, they’ll be in search of adding another pass rusher to complement him as well as add depth.

Ankrah’s signing with the Redskins is pending a physical, according to Keim.
