The Washington Redskins have added another off-cast from the Alliance of American Football. The team announced Thursday they have signed linebacker DeMarquis Gates to their 90-man roster.

Gates played for the Memphis Express which was coached by NFL legend Mike Singletary. Gates had 72 tackles and one sack during the eight-game season before the league went out of business.

Gates played at Ole Miss in college. There he racked up 114 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, and two sacks as a senior there. He went undrafted in last year’s NFL draft.

He signed with the Cleveland Browns last summer but was waived in June.

The Redskins are bolstering depth and Gates will be given an opportunity to showcase his skill set at inside linebacker. There is some uncertainty at the position for the Redskins, following the release of Zach Brown.

The team still awaits a decision from the NFL on Reuben Foster, as he is still on the league’s commissioner’s list stemming from allegations of domestic violence.

Mason Foster, the team’s leading tackler from 2018, is still on the roster, but with the emergence of younger talent such as Shaun Dion Hamilton, there is question of his spot heading into the season.

The Redskins previously signed two former AAF players, edge rusher Andrew Ankrah and offensive guard Salesi Uatefe.
