Alex Ovechkin and Carolina Hurricanes rookie Andrei Svechnikov dropped gloves in the first period of Monday’s Game 3 of their first-round series. The fight ended with Svechnikov seemingly knocked out after a series of straight jabs from the Washington Capitals’ captain.
Ovechkin’s last connected punch laid Svechnikov down to the ice. Immediately, Carolina teammates waved for help.

Both players were accessed a five-minute major for fighting. Meanwhile, Svechnikov was ruled out for the remainder of the game with an upper body injury.
Ovechkin may be the most prolific goal scorer of his generation, but he also is one of the more physical players in the NHL, and one that apparently has a lot of power in his punch.
