The Washington Redskins going quarterback in the first round of Thursday’s NFL Draft could happen. However, who they decide to draft, if they are in position to do so, is being debated within Redskins Park.
According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the Redskins’ brass is in disagreement about whether to select former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins or Duke’s Daniel Jones.
Of course the matter all depends on the Redskins getting in position to pick a quarterback. They currently have the 15th overall pick, but both Haskins and Jones have had a great deal of interest from multiple quarterback-needy teams.
Two separate reports surfaced Wednesday displaying the Redskins’ interest in both Haskins and Jones.
The Redskins reportedly have explored trading into the top-5 of the first-round to presumably pick a quarterback. They may have to do such to land either quarterback.
Oakland, who picks fourth overall and the New York Giants, who pick sixth, each could be in line to select a quarterback. And with former Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray possibly being selected first overall by Arizona, there could be a mad scrabble to get into a slot to have a choice of Haskins, Jones, or even Missouri’s Drew Lock.
The Redskins are in need of a long-term fix at quarterback with Alex Smith dealing with his devastating leg injury, Colt McCoy recovering from a broken leg as well, and Case Keenum with one year remaining under contract. However, will the Redskins do what it takes to position themselves to find the arm of their future tonight remains to be seen.
