The Washington Redskins just added to an already crowded backfield, drafting Bryce Love out of Stanford in the fourth round with the 112th overall pick. Love joins a group that already includes Derrius Guice, Adrian Peterson, Chris Thompson, Samaje Perine, and Byron Marshall.
There is no doubt Love is a first-round talent. However, a torn ACL suffered last season dropped him to Day 3 of the draft. But, if healthy the potential is there. Drafting such an option at running back is sure to raise eyebrows. And presumably one of those eyebrows raised was Guice, the Redskins’ second-round pick from a year ago.
It’s hard to read through a simple emoji tweet. And it’s not safe to presume. That’s what everyone apparently did, believing Guice was referencing the selection of Love. However, the Redskins running back explained otherwise once attention was shined on the tweet.
Guice claims he was referencing former LSU teammate running back Nick Brossette still be available. And it’s quite possible he wasn’t fibbing.
Without knowing exactly, it’s possible seeing another running back taken that was not Brossette was perplexing for Guice. Nonetheless, let’s not draw a hard line in what was Guice’s intentions and try to enjoy what could be a dynamic duo for years to come in Washington.
