The Washington Nationals have traded right-handed reliever Austin Adams to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for left-handed pitcher Nick Wells and cash considerations, according to Dan Kolko of MASN.

Adams was designated for assignment earlier this week to make room on the 40-man roster for left-handed reliever Dan Jennings. The Nationals ultimately worked out a deal with the Mariners.

Adams was with the Nationals’ organization from 2017-2019. He appeared in one game this season, Apr. 20 against the Miami Marlins. In the game he walked two betters, hit a batter with a pitch, and tossed two wild pitchers, leading to a run scored before striking out two.

In total, Adams made nine appearances with the Nationals posting a 3.86 ERA and 2.571 WHIP. He also had 12 strikeouts.

Wells, 23, is a former third-round draft pick of the Toronto Blue Jays. He was traded to the Mariners in 2015 where he has spent the past four years in their farm system.

This season while playing with Single-A Modesto, Wells has posted a 7.19 ERA with a 1.552 WHIP in five starts and 19 1/3 innings pitched.
