The Washington Redskins have hired Kyshoen Jarrett as a defensive quality control coach. The team made the announcement Tuesday. Jarrett served as a defensive coaching intern last season, primarily working with nickel cornerbacks.

“Kyshoen was a valuable asset to our coaching staff last season,” Redskins head coach Jay Gruden said. “He is a quality coach and a quality person and I have complete trust in him succeeding in this new role.”

The former Virginia Tech standout safety was a sixth-round pick of the Redskins in 2015. As rookie, Jarrett blossomed appearing in all 16 games that season and starting in six. He racked up 57 tackles, four passes defensed, and one forced fumble.

He suffered a severe spinal cord injury on a helmet-to-helmet hit with Dallas Cowboys running back Darren McFadden in the season’s finale. He was unable to fully regain strength in his arm in the months following the injury and was ultimately waived by the Redskins in 2016.
