There’s a huge developing story out of Redskins Park involving cornerstone left tackle Trent Williams. Williams has been absent from Washington’s mandatory mini-camp. Initially the reason was reportedly over his contract, however, a Jason La Canfora report suggested Williams wants out of Washington over the handling of his recent medical issue.

Since the report, Redskins head coach Jay Gruden all but confirmed the medical dispute was part of Williams not being at camp. Now, Washington’s starting right tackle Morgan Moses offered his support to Williams over the matter.

“It’s about time someone like that stands up,” Moses said, per John Keim of ESPN. “It’s not just a situation here; it happens throughout the league. To have one of our peers like Trent to stand up like that means a lot. His scare is one you never want to have, but you’ve got to take care of yourself.”

Williams underwent a procedure to remove a tumor or growth from his scalp earlier this off-season.

Wednesday while addressing the media, Gruden said Williams’ frustration may stem from “the timing of the diagnosis of the tumor” removed from his scalp.

It’s unclear what role the team or its medical staff played to seemingly upset the seven-time Pro Bowler. However, Keim added there have been compliants over the years about the Redskins’ medical staff, “often centering around communication during recovery periods.”

Whatever the case, the situation between Williams and the Redskins is developing into the biggest storyline for the team ahead of training camp and the preseason.
